    η→π0γγ\eta \to \pi^0 \gamma \gamma decay within unitarized chiral perturbation theory

We improve the calculations of the η→π0γγ\eta \to \pi^0 \gamma \gamma decay within the context of meson chiral lagrangians. We use a chiral unitary approach for the meson-meson interaction, thus generating the a0(980)a_0(980) resonance and fixing the longstanding sign ambiguity on its contribution. This also allows us to calculate the loops with one vector meson exchange, thus removing a former source of uncertainty. In addition we ensure the consistency of the approach with other processes. First, by using vector meson dominance couplings normalized to agree with radiative vector meson decays. And, second, by checking the consistency of the calculations with the related γγ→π0η\gamma \gamma \to \pi^0 \eta reaction. We find an η→π0γγ\eta \to \pi^0 \gamma \gamma decay width of 0.47±0.100.47\pm 0.10 eV, in clear disagreement with published data but in remarkable agreement with the most recent measurement.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, published versio

On the \phi(1020)f_0(980) S-wave scattering and the Y(2175) resonance

We have studied the \phi(1020)f_0(980) S-wave scattering at energies around threshold employing chiral Lagrangians coupled to vector mesons through minimal coupling. The interaction kernel is obtained by considering the f_0(980) as a K\bar{K} bound state. The Y(2175) resonance is generated in this approach by the self-interactions between the \phi(1020) and the f_0(980) resonances. We are able to describe the e^+e^-\to \phi(1020)f_0(980) recent scattering data to test experimentally our scattering amplitudes, concluding that the Y(2175) resonance has a large \phi(1020)f_0(980) meson-meson component.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figure

Chiral unitary theory: application to nuclear problems

In this talk we briefly describe some basic elements of chiral perturbation theory, χPT\chi PT, and how the implementation of unitarity and other novel elements lead to a better expansion of the TT matrix for meson meson and meson baryon interactions. Applications are then done to the ππ \pi \pi interaction in nuclear matter in the scalar and vector channels, antikaons in nuclei and K−K^- atoms, and how the ϕ\phi meson properties are changed in a nuclear medium.Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures, Invited talk in the International Symposium on Nuclear Physics, Bombay, december 200

    Estimating sigma-meson couplings from D \to 3\pi decays

Using recent experimental evidence from E791 on the sigma meson in D \to 3\pi decays, we study the relevant couplings in D \to \sigma \pi and \sigma \to \pi\ pi within the accepted theoretical framework for non leptonic D decays. We also review the linear sigma model, finding that it gives a description which is consistent with the experimental data.Comment: 6 pages, no figures. Two photon decay of neutral scalars below 1.5 GeV in a chiral model for bar{q}q and bar{q}bar{q}qq states

We study the two photon decay of neutral scalars below 1.5 GeV in the context of a recently proposed chiral model for bar{q}q and bar{q}bar{q}qq states. We find good agreement with experimental results for the a_{0}(980)->gamma gamma. Our calculations for f_{0}(980)->gamma gamma shows that further work is necessary in order to understand the structure of this meson. The model predicts Gamma(a_{0}(1450)->gamma gamma)=0.16+/-0.10KeV, Gamma(sigma->gamma gamma)=0.47+/-0.66 KeV, Gamma(f(1370)->gamma gamma)=0.07+/-0.15 KeV, Gamma(f(1500)->gamma gamma)=0.74+/-0.78 KeV.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur
